Established in 1913, Morton is situated in the center of Lewis County where US HWY 12, State Route 508 and US HWY 7 intersect. Benjamin Harrison's Vice President, Levi P. Morton (1889) is the city's namesake. Major industries in Morton's history include logging, harvesting cascara bark and mercury (Cinnabar) mining. Once known as the "tie mill capital of the world," Morton boasted the longest railroad tie dock in the 1950's.
